Description official descriptions
Sequel to Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe takes place in the Western Theater of Operations during WW2. Fly fighters and fighter-bombers for either England, Germany, or the United States, escorting heavy bombers, attacking ground troops, or just taking control of the skies over Europe.
Aces over Europe features improved graphics over its predecessor, including smoother models and individual squadron markings on planes. Terrain graphics have also been slightly enhanced to aid in navigation. AOE features campaign modes for all three sides. Although not truly dynamic, the campaigns feature random missions based on your plane type and squadron, making each campaign different.
Player controlled planes include the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and the North American P-51 Mustang (American side), the Supermarine Spitfire, the Hawker Tempest and the Hawker Typhoon (British side) and the German Messerschmitt Bf 109, Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger, and Messerschmitt Me 262.

Varied air combat action in the skies over europe - fast, furious and fun
The GoodWide range of missions are available - ground attack, search and destroy, dogfighting, intercept.... The graphics are quite good (even today, although in a retro sort of way). The choice of aircraft was quite good (German, British and US), and each was modelled quite nicely. The campaign consists of random missions, so you never know what is coming (although it is still based on historical dates, so the base you fly from etc are historically accurate). Overall, it is a great way to spend an afternoon.
The BadThe flight model was fun, but was not 6DOF, so you'll have to learn to fly all over again. The sound was not that great either. Finally, being a survey sim, it is not really good at modelling any one particular plane, so they all feel a bit too similar
The Bottom LineArcade style flight WW2 sim. You can fly as a Luftwaffe, RAF or USAAC pilot, flying fighters and light bombers. Definately worth trying out if you are interested in flight sims, air combat or WW2 - and you won't have to spend a week learning all the switches and buttons.
