With a grateful heart, I am happy to share that I have recently ended my wonderful production internship with Susie Films in Charlotte, NC! This wonderful opportunity has taught me a plethora of new techniques and skills for my career! Furthermore, I was able to work on my first professional film set for a series for PBS and acquire an IMDb credit as a PA! Thank you so much to April M., Scott Galloway, Paula Azuaje, and more of the wonderful team at Susie Films!

As I look back on my time as Chair of Filmmaking, I’ve thoroughly believed in connecting our program and students to the media industry, especially as we’re here in Los Angeles. I’ve spent so much time reaching out to friends and colleagues to do just that because I think that's important to do.I’ve found them so supportive. The result? Two wonderful partners for our program and thus our school in Warner Bros Discovery and Sony.Donations to our program from Warner Bros Discovery, Sony, Disney, DreamWorks, and Final Draft.Visits for our students to Paramount (12 times), Warner-Discovery, IMAX (3 times), NBCUniversal (twice), Disney, CBS, and YouTube. How does that connect to student careers and learning? I believe that when you really connect with the industry, you understand it more, and that makes you simply a better candidate for it. I don’t even think you should work for major media companies, but please know you could. I really didn’t think so when I first started, and I didn’t really try. I wish I had that belief, though it all turned out well for me.My posts here are a small attempt to explain how you can do so.Please keep in mind that we’re a small and new program, and below is where our students have interned in recent years. Is this all connected? I’ve seen student internships turn directly into jobs so many times and graduates work at places I first brought them to as students. Experience is educational - learning by osmosis. #woodbury #woodnuryfilmmaking #mediacareers #students #internships #entertainment

RE: The importance of InternshipsOur company recently finished an 8-week internship program for students from various colleges, which was facilitated by myself and different departments within Boardwalk Pictures. Throughout the internship, our students explored crucial careers in the entertainment industry. They rotated through Legal, Development/Creative, Production, and Postproduction, gaining insight into the television industry and the process of bringing a show from concept to screen.During our exit interviews, we asked the students the usual questions expected at such times, and one comment that particularly stood out to me was: "I’ve learned more during my eight weeks here than I have in my three years of college."!!!!!!!!!!!!I can't stress enough how valuable the hands-on experience gained through internships and real-world projects is. It often provides insights and skills that can't be fully captured in a classroom.Encourage and support those eager to take on new challenges and learn from every opportunity, as these experiences shape their future careers. Don’t waste an intern’s time with mindless work; give them meaningful tasks.Looking forward to next summer with fresh faces!

UNLV Film and IFTA Foundation to Co-sponsor Internship Program During the American Film Market! According to Andi Isaacs, assistant professor and internship coordinator, "The AFM and IFTA are the lifeblood of the independent film world. There is no other event where distributors, producers, sales agents, and filmmakers can all gather in one place and discuss the state of the industry as well as the films currently being sold. Our students will have the incredible opportunity to sit down with these professionals, learn from them, and gain tremendous insight into the world of independent film."
